Winter Wonderland
The Student Center held the annual Winter Celebration from 11am to 2pm today. It was the first year that I actually attended and let me just say, it was FANTASTICAL! The Christmas music was blaring throughout and there was tons of food to eat. There was grilled cheese, soup, cotton candy, snow cones, and they even had a chocolate fountain that you could dip strawberries, pretzels, graham crackers, and marshmallows into. Groups and organizations were handing out goodies or selling products. There were holiday crafts that students could make. They had button making, gingerbread and cookie decorating, ornament painting, and much more. Santa Claus even made a special appearance. People could get a picture with him if they wanted. It was super cute! I was doing all the activities for at least 2 hours. I personally think that was the best event the Student Center has ever put on since I've been a student here at Keene State. I'm already marking my calendar for next years.

Art Jammin'
Last night the Mable Brown Room was bumping with loud tunes. The noise could be heard from outside the student center. Art Jam was the event that took place on December 5th from 5pm to 9pm. There was free food, music, and fun!
It was really quite a site. Amazing art work was displayed all around the room while in the center people were drawing and creating more masterpieces on giant pieces of white paper. When people weren't drawing, they were dancing their hearts out to some music. The funky bands that took the stage were: The Northern Sea Robin, The 123s, and The Big Sway. All three bands rocked out and put on wonderful performances.
The night was a total success. There was a great turn out of people. It doesn't surprise me, when you put two great things together like music and art, it's obviously going to be a party. If you weren't able to go, wait for next year. The organization that put it on, Art Collective, will most likely do it again.

Midnight Munching
Do you ever experience your tummy grumbling around midnight? Well you are not alone. You are a college student who needs nutrients to fuel the brain and the belly. You want to excel in school so it doesn't seem fair that the Zorn Dinning Commons closes at 7:30. With college students hectic schedule, rarely do they go to bed early. The are working hard and building up an appetite, but they have no where to go when their stomaches are empty. I personally think that the facilities should be open much later and I know hundreds of students agree with me. There isn't really any place on campus that you can go for when you get those late night urges for some food.
Thankfully we have local Dominos to rely on. On the weekdays it's open till 1a.m. and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday till 3a.m. You can order over the phone, or even better, if you don't feel like talking to someone you can actually order online. The menu is great. They range from pizza to chicken, pasta to cinnastix, and much more.
Are you just watering at the mouth reading this right now? Then I think it's time to order some grub by calling: 603-357-5534 or visiting http://express.dominos.com/order/olo.jsp

Alternatively Breaking.
Spring break is what many college students fantasize about. They dream about going to Cancun, laying out on the beach, hooking up with good looking strangers, and soaking up the sun while partying with friends. That however, is not how I plan spending my week off in March. I mean, I would love to be doing that, but instead I chose to do the Alternative Spring Break program which is run through Keene State College. ASB is an organization that sends out multiple groups of students who travel all over the United States to do community service during their week off from school. The members will be doing a number of tasks like working with underprivileged children, working at soup kitchens, rebuilding communities, or cleaning up the environment.
The program that I chose to participate in was the Everglades trip. It was my first choice so I am pumped! Apparently we will be staying in this wicked cool hostel. I also heard a rumor that we get to play with monkeys. It is going to be such a great time. All I have to watch out for are those pesky alligators!
The deadline is already up and all the teams have been selected this year, but you should definitely consider going on the trip yourself next year. Not only will you be traveling to a new location, but you will also be helping others in need. You will feel great about yourself and have a fun time. The best part is that you get to make lifelong friends and experience new things that you might never get the opportunity to do so. Think about it!

Peeling Back the Layers of the Onion.
Tears were shed Thursday night, not because of onions, but from laughter. "The Onion -American's Finest News Source" was promoted in the Mable Brown. The event started at 7pm. Two writers from the satirical publication showed off some of work of The Onion. The ridiculous news stories mocked real stories in the press.
Personally, I did not find a lot of their jokes funny, but the rest of the audience was laughing pretty hardcore. I think that it might have to do with the fact that I don't regularly read the news, so some of the issues they were making fun of didn't make any sense to me. If I was aware of some of the topics, I'm sure I would have been 'LOL'ing.
As the presentation was going on I started to wonder how what they did was ethical. They were making up stories that could hurt someone's reputation. They photocopied pictures and made fake videos. I still don't fully understand how they can get away with it. They were explaining how its considered satire parody, so technically they can't get in trouble for anything. One of the speakers said that they don't just "shit" on regular people, but they go after the people that deserve it. They are careful about who they target. Overall though they were bragging, "we do what we want." They also said that people need to realize that everything they write is fake.
It was interesting to hear everything. The most shocking fact was that the writers actually write the headline first, then the story. I found that to be captivating because it is different from how it usually works. In addition, only 1 hard copy comes out every week. Do not worry though, all of the silly stories are online.
